chspter 11&12:

in chapter 11&12 JACOBS talk about the need of concentration,This concentration includes visitors as well as residents. High ppulation densities in residential areas realy in need for this concentration it is very important for those places and high population density is not the same thing as overcrowding. But Jacobs discusses neighborhoods in cities with comparable high population densities and that some are successful, such as greenwich Village and some are not, like Roxbury. Many city slum areas have low population densities Ex. Oakland, Cleveland, Detroit, and new york. Densities should be at a level that promotes divrsity.

after 1950

I chose to describe my house as one of the buildinds that was constructed after 1950.It is a standerd two floors small building, This building takes
two corners with two side walks, one side in woodhaven blvd and the other one in 63 ave. the entrance of the house located in 63 ave at
the middle of the house between two different doors, The left side dolce cafe's door and the right side doctors office door. The house paint in biege color which give it a nice view, The bulding have 2 apartments in front of each other in the second floor and each one has 2 bedrooms. The view from my apartment is realy nice view because it take two corners as you see in the pics. my apartment is the one above the cafe and the other apartment above th doctors office, my room have two windows and the other room have 3 windows (the one above the cafe), the dining room also have 2 windows next to my parentsroom and the kitchen has only one window.I realy hate this building because sience i moved to it and i ddidn't feel confortable at all day or night time ,because the doctors office is too noisy at thedat time and the cafe is noisy at the night time for no reason, every time ipass bu the cafe i find it empty no one in there, but only the waiter and the passboy waiting for some one to come in even to buy one cup of coffie for 1 dollar, they always try to keep on busy specially when the owner is in the store, the music is always loud, thats why i realy suffer to get a few hours to sleep during the day because of the music specially the weekends because they bring a singer how start singing from 8:00pm to 12pm after the mednight tring to attrackt any new coustmers, I can't relax in this house there is no way.

chapter 9:

IN this chapter JACOBS argue about small blocks and how it is important with a lot of places where people can turn easier so they can reach the distinations that they need faster, so it is required for successful city planning . If not, the street is isolated. but with Long blocks there is no breaks in them. People are lost and helpless when they uses areas with long blocks and they get borred quickly. Short blocks give people more choices,it allow more people to mingling and communicat, and result in more diversity growth. Long blocks are somthing that separates the use of mixtures and diversity. People try to avoid areas that have long blocks. Long blocks is sometimes meaningless because the lack of the trust but short ones will help people to know each other.

Rego park

After the research results, I would like to describe my neighborhood more specifically, because I have some new information about my area that i didn't know about it before. I just moved to REGO PARK 3 month ago my general information was a little about this area, it has a huge number of jewish population most of them jewish immigrants came from RUSSIA, ISRAEL, ROMANIA, IRAN and ALBANIA but i didn't know that regopark's population as of ((2007)) is 43,683 people. Since 2000, it has had a population growth of (-0.69%) percent. which mean it became less population during the previous 7 years, This is because cost of living is 66.24% Higher than the U.S. average, complaints regarding noise is 1.31% (per 10,000 resident) ,and home value in Rego Park is $679,000. Home appreciation is 1.46% over the last year.
REGO PARK is one of the most crowded areas in queens, because QUEENS CENTER MALL which open in 1972. Takes a graet location and huge space for parking lots at queens blvd, this mall must have alot of job opportunity for people, so people wo lives around the area shouldnot have any problem to find a job ,its easy to get a one near to there houses, but what showen that the unemployment rate at rego park is high its 4.10% with growth of (-0.07%). Education in rego park is more expensive than othe areas, schools spend $7,192 per student, The average school expenditure in the U.S. is $6,058.

GIS.NYC is agreat web site that show alot of important information about the rates of neighborhood public safty, legal affairs, health, education, human services,besinesses...ect.

chapter 7 & 8 :

In those two chapters JACOBS talked about diversity and how it work in a city, she described diversity as a natural thing to big cities, because larger cities have more diversity and big enterprises have greater self success than small ones. She also described how cities need manufacturing businesses and commercial establishments in order to survive.the bronx was one of the examples that she mentioned about this problem,JACOBS conditions that generate the diversity are quite easy to discover by studing the economic reasons in each place and the great need for these four conditions is the most important point this book has to make. Different people must be on the streets at different times at all times of the day and night to provide the mixed primary uses that are needed. The parks require people doing different things at different times. Same as streets and parks, also stores and other commercial businessess need users and customers. Lower Manhattan is used as an example of people During the lunch hour of the work, places are crowded outside of working hours,This is because there is no balance of the time use and no enough residents at this palces.

chapter 3

In this chapter the outher was talking about the city sidewalks and how important it is for the neighborhoods and how it affect people lives. Sidewalks is a public place where people can meet and communicat, it bring together people who don't know each other in order to make a social life of city sidewalks, especially when there are stores, bars, cafes and restaurants ect....
JACOBS also talked about the absence of trust of city street which considered to be abig problem for city streets without sidewalk public safty. trust is important element to make a successful social life. The outher came with a good example that can make people more close to each other (togetherness) which is an old ideal od planning thory, it can make agood relationship with other people but city people is missing togetherness because city planners don't know the basic needs of neighborhoods and no one of the city people want to sheare his privacy and make relationship with other people.

My sidewalk

I live in Rego park it is part of the NEW YORK city borough of QUEENS.The neighbohood North boundary is Elmhurst and Corona, the east and south is ForestHills and the west is the mMiddle village.
My house is located in (WOODHAVEN BLVD & 63 AVE),this area has a huge nember of jewish population, most of them are jewish immigrants wh came from RUSSIA, ISRAEL, ROMANIA, IRAN and ALBANIA. QUEENS CENTER MALL, the boroughs largest shopping center is a few blocks away from my house, which include some of queens most popular shopping department stores such as macy's , jcpenny and sears. This mall gives a nice view for the area but it drives me crazy, because it makes the area too crawded by people and cars during the day time and weekends. Also it give me ahard time to take the bus to go home,so i have to wait in a big line, almost two blocks long to reach the bus.WOODHAVEN BLVD is a major boulevard that runs north and south it is always noisy during the day time, alot of trucks, private cars and yellow cabs drive through. it is also a main way to reach JFK AIRPORT ,thats why it is always crawded and noise during the day time and weekends. night time is different, less noise around the area because there are less cars ,but my block is always crawded, this is because we have a lot of stores, kosher restaurant, bars, supermarkets and medical offices.
Most of the people who use my block during the day time is old people who cames for the medical offices (which is the next door & the far corner of the other side of the street). In the afternoon shoppers come to the supermarkets and people who just came back from work would like to have lunch in one of the restaurants next to my house also use my block.Night time u can find people standing in groups in front of the bars.
every day the same thing happen thats why i love my neighborhood.

FORGOTTEN-NY

The website forgotten-ny.com is talking about or advertising about the artifacts of New York that have been left alone. It also talks about how many of the ancient buildings might be either knocked down or are going to be renewed to be used for other purposes. This site is trying to STOP the city from knocking down these buildings because they are ancient. They show us how new york city was a hundred years ago and now. They describe how the architecture of our city and how our city looked like long time ago. It is very important to preserve this because not only it is important, but because we can use it as a museum for the tourists that visit new york city every year.
THE DEATH AND LIFE OF GREAT AMERICAN CITIES

BY ( JANE JACOBS)

Jacobs wrote this book to introduce new, modern principles of the city planning and rebuilding. Its mainly writing about how cities work in real life, because it is the only way to learn what principles of planning and what practices in rebuildind can promote social and economic life force in cities, and what practices and principles will deaden these attributes. She start using a number of places like NEW YORK,becauce (that was where she lived), BOSTON,and PHILADELPHIA as an examples of the orthodox city planning and rebuilding which became a slum, because of the problems that the cities have. Also the second partof the book is principally about the economic behavior of the cities.
